All About Eat and Tour: Oskaloosa Food Tours

Small Town Experience!

Oskaloosa, platted in 1844, is the county seat of Mahaska County in Iowa. The town is located between the Skunk and Des Moines rivers and is home to approximately 11,000 people.

Cheryl will take you on a tour around the historical square with food from places like Grate Expectations, Smokey Row, Hunter's Cafe, Untamed Nutrition, and Rosso & Wine and Pronto. Take peeks in some of the interesting shops such as Brushed by Jude, Salvaged Designs, Book Vault, and more. Listen to the history of the County Courthouse, Bandstand, Library, Firehouse, The Alley, and various other buildings around the square. Enjoy some of Oskaloosa's changing sculptures and beautiful murals.

Cheryl Benson--Owner and Chief Cook and Bottlewasher

Cheryl was born in Columbus, Ohio, moved to Dallas, Texas at the age of 10, moved to Morristown, New Jersey at the age of 14 and then found her true home–Oskaloosa, Iowa–at age 17. Cheryl had many careers over her life–restaurants, factory work, direct sales, teacher, and consultant.  She retired in 2019 (best job ever!) and is enjoying this new food tour venture.

Special thanks to Matt Kargol for creating the logo, and a big shout-outs to my two BFFs (Shea Cook and Dana Hols) who helped and laughed with me!
